Nursing with confidence
VU's strong industry connections helped us get placements in really good hospitals, and that helped me build confidence with my nursing skills and knowledge.
Resha Sapkota
Bachelor of Nursing
With the skills and confidence she gained at Victoria University (VU), Resha Sapkota is thriving in her role as a graduate nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
“I’m from Nepal and I recently completed my Bachelor of Nursing at VU.
“I chose VU for its reputation in academic excellence and I was immediately impressed by the campus, all the facilities provided and the supportive staff.
“As an international student, I felt warmly welcomed at VU. It was great to meet people from all around the world. VU has a really positive and culturally diverse environment which helped me adjust and get comfortable really easily.
“The VU Block Model® really helped me balance my work, study and social life. I think it helped me to focus on one unit at a time and that really decreased my stress.”
From skills labs to hospital placements
“My bachelor degree was basically split into three different parts – workshops, labs and placements.
The teaching quality was excellent and everything that we learned in workshops, we would practice it in the lab, and then use it in real life when we did our placements.
“VU's strong industry connections helped us get placements in really good hospitals, and that helped me build confidence with my nursing skills and knowledge.”
Building industry experience
“There are so many employment opportunities in Melbourne. When I was studying, I was also working as a personal care assistant and a health assistant nurse.
“Once I completed my first year at VU, I was also allowed to work as student nurse in hospitals. That was another great thing, as it gave me great exposure to the work environment that I'm working in right now.”
Thriving as a graduate nurse
“After completing my degree at VU, I successfully registered as a nurse in Australia, and I’m currently working as a graduate nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
“I am four months into the job, and I enjoy everything. Every day is different. You have different patients, different patient loads, different things you're doing in wards, so I love everything I do.
“From my personal experience, I would definitely recommend VU to both international and domestic students. All the knowledge and skills that I learned at VU definitely helped me become a very confident graduate nurse, and settle into Australia really smoothly.”
