Small business gets boost from Victoria University

Victoria University will reinforce its commitment to Melbourne's west with a series of inspirational and informative events for small business to be held in the region during August.

The six events include seminars, breakfasts, lunches, and conferences, and will be run in conjunction with Victoria's small business festival, Energise Enterprise 08. They are aimed at people interested in starting a small business, or who want to grow their existing business. Bookings are essential. All events, except the Inner West Leader's Lunch are free.

VICTORIA UNIVERSITY BREAKFAST CLUB
Make your business dreams a reality! Bounce your ideas off David Southwick, VU Alumnus and successful entrepreneur. Discuss concepts that can help YOU turn that big idea into a great business.

TUESDAY 12 AUGUST
BUSINESS NOW - GROWTH STRATEGIES IN A CHANGING WORLD
Run in conjunction with Melbourne's West Area Consultative Committee, six local councils and the ANZ Bank, this half-day conference offers an opportunity to build business and network. It includes information booths, presentations and panel discussions with senior business leaders.

SOLVING INDUSTRY PROBLEMS - USING MATHEMATICS
Ever thought that using mathematics may solve the planning, scheduling, rostering or forecasting problems in your business? This seminar, run by VU mathematics' academics, is targeted at businesses that want to explore new ways to solve everyday problems.

WEDNESDAY 20 AUGUST
RECRUITMENT AND BEYOND - EMPLOYMENT ISSUES FOR SMALL BUSINESS
Employment issues and recruitment can be the most costly and time-consuming challenges facing small business managers. This free, two-part seminar with expert academic and industry speakers, will cover the essentials of industrial relations today, plus tips for successful and cost-effective recruitment.

INNER WEST LEADER'S LUNCH
Inner West Leader's Lunch is a concept created with a view to bringing businesses of the west together in a forum that captures their common interests.

THURSDAY 28 AUGUST
DEAN'S BUSINESS NETWORK LECTURE SERIES - FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND LAW
The Dean's Business Network is a series hosted by Professor Colin Clark, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at Victoria University. These events present a rare opportunity to hear from high-level speakers on a broad range of topics of interest to business.
