Undergraduate
Entry Requirements
Academic Performance
Entry to Undergraduate courses generally requires completion of a secondary school qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12 (VCE).
English Proficiency
The minimum English language proficiency requirements for degree courses are:
- a paper-based TOEFL (PBT) - a minimum test score of 550 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.0; or
- a computer-based TOEFL (CBT) score of 213 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 5.0; or
- an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 80+ with a minimum of 20 in all sections; or
- an IELTS (Academic Module) score of 6.0, with no subtest score below 6; or
- an achievement of Advanced level at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI).
Some degree courses have higher entry requirements. Bachelor degrees in education and law may require:
- a paper-based TOEFL (PBT) - a minimum test score of 580 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.0; or
- a computer-based TOEFL (CBT) score of 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 5.0; or
- an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 92+ with minimum of 22 in all sections; or
- an IELTS (Academic Module) score of 6.5 (no subtest score below 6); or
- an achievement of English proficiency equivalent to IELTS of 6.5 (no band below 6) at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI)
Postgraduate
Entry Requirements
The following academic requirements are provided as a general guideline to the University's Postgraduate programs. Some programs may have additional requirements.
Academic Performace
Academic requirements for research programs are:
- a masters degree, an honours degree, or equivalent qualification, from an approved university or other educational institution.
Academic requirements for masters degrees are:
- an Undergraduate degree that is comparable to an Australian bachelor or equivalent; and
- a diploma and significant work experience for some programs.
Academic requirements for graduate certificates and diplomas are:
- an Undergraduate degree that is comparable to an Australian bachelor or equivalent; or
- approved qualifications and relevant work experience.
English Proficiency
The minimum English language proficiency requirements for Postgraduate courses are
- a paper-based TOEFL (PBT) score of 580 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.5; or
- a computer-based TOEFL (CBT) score of 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 5.5; or
- an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 92+ with minimum of 22 in all sections; or
- an IELTS (Academic Module) score of 6.5 (no subtest score below 6); or
- an achievement of English proficiency equivalent to IELTS of 6.5 (no band below 6) at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI).
Note: some Postgraduate courses have higher entry requirements.
The minimum English language proficiency requirements for Postgraduate qualifications in education may require:
- a paper-based TOEFL (PBT) score of 600 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.5; or
- a computer-based TOEFL (CBT) score of 250 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 5.5; or
- an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 100+ with minimum of 25 in all sections; or
- an IELTS (Academic Module) score of 7.0 (no subtest score below 6); or
- an achievement of English proficiency equivalent to IELTS of 7.0 (no band below 6) at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI).
Vocational Education Entry Requirements
Academic Performance
For a certificate course, you'll need to have completed a secondary school qualification equivalent to Australian Year 11.
For a diploma course, you'll need to have a secondary school qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12. In some courses, selection is not based purely on academic performance. Work experience, personal portfolios and other documentation may also be submitted.
English Proficiency
The minimum English language proficiency requirements for certificate and diploma courses are:
- a paper-based TOEFL (PBT) score of 525 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 4; or
- a computer-based TOEFL (CBT) score of 197 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 4; or
- an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 70+ with a minimum of 18 in all sections; or
- an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) (Academic Module) score of 5.5 with no subtest score below 5; or
- an achievement of Upper Intermediate level at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI).
