Who can be an exchange student?
VU welcomes incoming exchange students from overseas institution with which Victoria University has a signed agreement. Exchange students are non-award students who study at Victoria University for one or two semesters on a reciprocal basis. Exchange students do not pay tuition fees at Victoria University but continue to pay any fees to their home institution. Exchange students must take out .Application closing dates

Go on exchange and see the world
All VU students have the opportunity to study for a semester or two at one of our partner institutions. You are able to study at overseas institutions with which Victoria University has a signed agreement. As a VU exchange student you do not pay tuition fees overseas, but pay HECS for the semester or year of study overseas. Types of exchange agreements
General AgreementsA student to undertake subjects from any faculty at Victoria University or the partner institution.
Faculty Agreements
Students select subjects from a specific faculty.
Limited opportunities also exist to participate in the University Mobility in the Asia Pacific (UMAP) exchange program. Students selected to participate in a UMAP program will receive $4500 in financial assistance. Information on the scholarship opportunity is included in the Victoria Abroad Application Form. Application procedures and admission requirements
Outgoing VU students
VU students wishing to study on an exchange program must have:
- normally achieved a CREDIT average in their studies;
- completed one year of undergraduate study at Victoria University; or
- completed one semester of postgraduate study at Victoria University.
When applying, you must submit the following documents to Victoria Abroad:
* full academic transcript;
* two letters of reference (one must be an academic reference);
* Curriculum Vitae / resume
* a short statement (no longer than a page) listing the program in which you would like to participate, your reasons for wanting to go on exchange, and why you think you would be a good ambassador for Victoria University; and your completed application form.

Loan and funding options to study overseas on exchange
(outgoing VU exchange students only)
OS Help Loans
Commonwealth-supported Australian citizens and Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder students can be financially assisted in their overseas studies for programs that count towards their course of study (e.g. an overseas exchange program) by a cash payment loan from the Australian Government. This loan scheme is referred to as OS-HELP. Victoria University applicants can apply for payments ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for a six-month study period. Full eligibility criteria is outlined in the OS-HELP Application form.

Scholarship / Grant opportunities for outgoing VU exchange students
University Mobility Asia Pacific (UMAP) Grants
These grants are available in different areas of study and applied to different partner universities each year. Grants of up to $4500 are offered and designed to assist with travel and living arrangements. A limited number are available based on academic merit.
VU Student Travel Grants
In 2007, the Victoria University Travel Grant Scheme offers awards to outgoing exchange students. All students wishing to go on a Victoria Abroad exchange program are invited to apply.
As a condition of your travel grant, you must complete the scheduled predeparture sessions prior to leaving, and the re-entry program upon your return.
- Europe (incl. UK), Korea, Japan and the Middle East: $4,000
- USA, Canada, Mexico and South America: $3,000
- Asia, Pacific and India: $2,000
For an overseas approved study experience to the following destinations for which credit is not received, grants are:
- Europe (incl. UK), Korea, Japan and the Middle East: $2,000
- USA, Canada, Mexico and South America: $1,500
- Asia, Pacific and India: $1,000
PLEASE NOTE: You are entitled to one travel grant during your studies at VU.

Faculty Grants / Scholarships
Youth Allowance/Austudy
Students who currently receive Youth Allowance or Austudy are eligible to continue receiving payments while studying overseas. You will need to provide evidence that you will be studying full time on an approved Education Abroad program that will be credited towards your degree. Australian Exchange and Alunmni Association (AXAN) is offering anyone living in Australia with some form of international study experience the opportunity to join its membership.
