Elite athlete, student and soon-to-be qualified teacher Elisabeth Georgostathis wears many hats, and today’s will be particularly special as she steps onstage in cap and gown to graduate at Victoria University.

After four years of study, Elisabeth will graduate with a Bachelor of Education (P-12) alongside almost 2,000 of her peers, as they begin the next exciting chapter of their lives.

It’s already been a hectic time for Elisabeth; aside from training and casual relief teaching, Elisabeth is planning her first overseas trip to Greece and Italy. “Sometimes people think I do too much, but I really like having a packed schedule.”

The mid-fielder turned defender has spent years juggling training, studying, socialising, and part-time work. “I also like my down-time, but staying busy keeps me motivated.”

As a child and teenager, Elisabeth was always doing something, including netball practice and other sports training five days a week, along with weekend matches. “My poor parents!  I’m really grateful for their support.”

Her love of Aussie Rules took hold years ago when she saw a match between Carlton and Collingwood at Ikon Park. "The atmosphere was amazing – to see so many supporters, so many people coming along to see this one event...”

Described as a “hard-working player” by the Bulldogs (and known as Lizzie to her teammates), Elisabeth was selected in the AFL Draft in 2019 and was named the Bulldogs’ Best Young Player for the 2022 season. Amidst the intense training and accolades, Elisabeth can still recall the first time she played a game for the AFLW. “I absolutely loved it – I love the physicality of it.”

“Sport participation has taught me a lot, especially about the benefits of being in a team environment. There are so many different personalities, so many people to connect with. I think that’s what makes our team so special. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you bring to the group – everyone is so welcoming.”

In a recent podcast episode of People of VU, hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker, Elisabeth shared more exciting news about her future plans and how the VU Block Model contributed to her success.
