Come and celebrate Pride Week 2014 at Victoria University from 12-16 May and enjoy a range of activities happening throughout the week in support of LGBTIQ pride!
We have activities running all week, including:
- our social media campaign - connect with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #loveisloveVU
- business cards with messages
- marriage equality petition
- Ally network promotion
- Student designed t-shirts supporting the Rainbow Network
- in class documentary - how to run pride week!
- an interactive art installation.

Monday: Film screening
Monday 12 May, 2pm
Come to the VUSU Lounge at Level 1, Building M at Footscray Park campus for a film screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!
Tuesday: Pride picnic
Tuesday 13 May, 2pm - 4pm
Come to the VUSU Lounge at Level 1, Building M at Footscray Park campus for afternoon tea with the VU Ally network. There'll be performances from Simon Taylor (comedian) and the VU Theatre company, as well as door prizes!
About Simon Taylor
Simon Taylor is an Australian stand-up comedian based in Melbourne and LA. He was a writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno until its completion and now writes for Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell on the ABC. Simon has toured the world with his stand-up in places diverse as New York, Albuquerque, Singapore and Cambodia. Time Out describes him as “a shooting star of the comedy scene”, The Age depicts his comedy as “a master of timing” and he is a recipient of The Butterfly Club’s prestigious Under Our Wing Award, previously won by Tim Minchin and Sammy J.

About Daniel Witthaus
In 2010, Daniel Witthaus spent 266 days driving around regional, rural and remote Australia challenging homophobia 'one cuppa at a time'. In a 38 week road trip around Australia, Daniel discovered what modern day life is really like for LGBTIQ people.
Daniel Witthaus is the author of Beyond Priscilla: one gay man, one gay truck, one big idea..., Beyond ‘That’s So Gay!’ – Challenging homophobia in Australian schools and the Pride & Prejudice educational package. He continues to visit country communities to challenge homophobia one cuppa at a time, occasionally chatting with media outlets. In 2013 Daniel founded the National Institute for Challenging Homophobia Education (NICHE), which focuses on the needs of regional, rural and remote Australia.
Thursday: Coming Out Party!
Thursday 15 May, 7pm
Join the VU Student Union and the Ally network to celebrate queer culture at VU at our Coming Out Party!
The party is at Mr Wow's Emporium in Fitzroy.
Mr. Wow's Emporium is holding 'Thursgay' on the same night so come early to avoid the inevitable queue! Bring your student ID for a free drink on arrival.
$12 espresso martinis until 10pm
