About Sharon Andrew
Professor Sharon Andrew, RN, RM FCNA, has over 20 years' experience in leadership, research, teaching and curriculum development in the university sector. Sharon’s clinical experience is in medical-surgical nursing, critical care and midwifery.
Her leadership roles have included:
- Head of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria University 2016-2019, Professor of Nursing Anglia Ruskin University (2010-2016)
- Head of Program (Postgraduate Studies) Western Sydney (WSU), Campbelltown BN Campus Advisor (WSU)
- Head of Program for Masters courses conducted in Hong Kong (WSU).
Sharon’s clinical research is focused on chronic conditions and patient experience and models of care. Her recent research has been around the development of a patient reported experience measure (PREM) for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Sharon is also interested in clinical innovation and its application to nursing and healthcare. Other research areas are nursing education and methodological research.
Sharon is internationally recognised for her mixed methods expertise. She is the Methods Editor for the journal Contemporary Nurse and is a reviewer for a number of high-profile nursing journals.
Sharon has had over A$1.1 million dollars in research funding, over 70 publications, one edited book and her Scopus h-index is 22 (12/9/2019). Sharon is the Methods Editor for Contemporary Nurse. She has supervised to completion (primary or co-supervisor ): 7 PhD, 1D.Ed, 9 Masters and 3 Honours students in the UK/ Australia.
Sharon was joint leader of Anglia Ruskin’s UOA25 Research for Excellence Framework (REF) submission 2013 and the joint leader of Anglia Ruskin University’s Nursing Research Unit.
Sharon has been awarded prizes for her teaching, including the highly competitive Australian Learning Teaching Council Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2010), the Vice-Chancellors’ Teaching Excellence Award (Highly Commended), Western Sydney (WSU), and the WSU College of Health and Science Teaching Excellence Award.
