Ian is an experienced teacher educator, with significant experience teaching Outdoor Education and Physical Education within both secondary schools and tertiary institutions, currently working as a Lecturer in Outdoor Recreation/Education at Victoria University.

Ian has designed, developed, and delivered numerous Outdoor Education courses and programs and is committed and passionate about providing excellent teaching and learning opportunities. His sustained and evaluated approaches to teaching and learning have been recognised through a Vice-Chancellor citation for “Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning”.

Following the completion of his Master’s which investigated the effect an Outdoor Education experience had on secondary school students learning capacity in English, Ian has continued his active role in research activities. Ian is currently undertaking his PhD at Federation University Australia, which focusses on the development of professional identity of outdoor educators.

Ian has also conducted research that explores young adults socialisation into outdoor education activities, and has investigated tertiary outdoor education students learning experience. Ian has shared his research and teaching practice at State, National and International conferences.
