Reshmi joined Federation University’s Institute of Education, Arts, and Community as a Scholarly Teaching Fellow in 2023.

Earlier she has taught and researched at Deakin and Monash Universities and been a casual researcher at Victoria and Southern Cross Universities. Reshmi obtained her first PhD in English and Cultural Studies (2005) under a University of Canterbury (New Zealand) doctoral scholarship.

An interdisciplinary social scientist, currently pursuing her second PhD (Education - Deakin University) her research aims to advance global understanding of how auto/ethnographical experiences of education shape the creation of academic identities among marginalised groups within Higher Education in diverse contexts.

Another research focus is gender equity stressing on migrant women’s empowerment and their intersectional vulnerabilities. Reshmi is on the editorial board of Qualitative Research Journal with publications in International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, Pedagogy, Culture & Society, Journal of Intercultural Studies, Emotion, Space and Society, Women’s Studies International Forum, Journal of Postcolonial Writing among others.

An invited reviewer for reputed journals such as Social Identities, Frontiers in Sociology, International Migration Review, and Journal of Gender Studies. Reshmi is also the co-editor of Asian Women, Identity and Migration Experiences of Transnational Women of Indian Origin/Heritage (Routledge 2021).
