Exploring the benefits of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) for individuals with PCOS

Do you have PCOS and are interested in participating in lifestyle strategies to improve your overall health? 

We are conducting a trial to compare the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) completed in our research labs, to HIIT completed in your home. 

We will examine the impact of HIIT on cardio-metabolic, reproductive, and mental health.

We will also investigate the intricate relationship between PCOS, immunological response, and the overall impact of exercise.

Requirements

As part of the study, you will be required to undergo the following tests:

  • DXA scan for body composition analysis
  • exercise testing
  • oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and blood sampling
  • one week of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)
  • 12 weeks of supervised HIIT on a bicycle either in our research laboratories or at home via Zoom 
  • questionnaires regarding your physical and mental health
  • focus group discussions.

Eligibility

To take part in the study, you must:

  • have a diagnosis of PCOS
  • have a BMI ≥25kg/m2
  • not taking oral contraceptives, insulin sensitisers or anti-obesity medications
  • not smoke
  • not be pregnant of looking to fall pregnant in the next 6 months
  • not be diagnosed with diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
