Victoria University Fire Research Group (VUFRG)

A burst of orange flame against a black background.
Our projects include detailed studies of fundamental combustion processes, the application of fire safety engineering in practice, and providing tailored solutions to the tunnelling sector.

Experimental research is largely conducted in the VU NATA Structural Fire Testing Facility while numerical modelling work is carried out on a variety of machines from desktop workstations through to high performance parallel computing facilities.

The research conducted is impact-focused, which is in strong alignment with solving industry problems and making real-world impact.

Our Structural Fire Testing Facility at the Werribee campus is accredited for the tests shown on the Scope of Accreditation issued by NATA*.  It demonstrates its technical competence to operate in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.

*NATA is Australia's government-endorsed accreditor of laboratories, and a leader in accreditation internationally.
