Professor Pat Drake, Dean, College of Education, invites you to participate in the 2014 Diamond Series.
There have been significant social, cultural and political shifts in attitudes surrounding homosexuality since 1984. However, schools often become places where rejection is actively performed and the silences that surround the issue of homosexuality reinforces it as either taboo or unacceptable.
Presented by Dr Mark Vicars and Dr David Rhodes, LGBT equity in Australian schools: A very queer agenda will examine how educational communities of practice dis/engage with lesbian and gay presence. They will posit ways in which educators pedagogical practices can counter stigmatising attitudes and practices towards queer children within school settings.
