Exhibition: Women Wept - the aftermath

Three women artists, decades apart in age, ask how women coped with grief and death but also with the damaged soldiers who came streaming home in the aftermath of WW1.
The ANZAC Centenary is not over.
Gallipoli survivors are now training alongside new recruits in Egypt, about to fight on the fields of France at infamous places: Pozieres, the Somme, Verdun, Ypres, Bullecourt and more.
At home the streets are filling with soldiers – but these are the legless, the armless, the blind and the sick - returning home to the care of wives and mothers. Out of the carnage grew new science, including plastic surgery, blood banks, and better treatments for venereal disease. But the divorce rate soared, as did the suicide rate.
The artists offer individual and collaborative art responses to a journey they undertook together. They delve into family histories – their own as well as other people’s – to discover how the sadness, courage, pain & joy from 100 years ago still echoes through families today.
