About Cagil Ozansoy

Dr Cagil Ozansoy teaches Electrical Engineering with a focus in power and energy systems.

His research is centered around investigations on how information exchange and communications could play a major role in shaping up the electrical grid of the future: smart grids. His main research strength is in the design and development of communication assisted power systems protection, automation and control applications.

Dr Ozansoy is very well known internationally for his investigations in the novel use of the international substation communication standard IEC 61850. More recently, Dr Ozansoy has been leading R&D projects in novel methods to cut bushfire risk from powerlines. He is using machine learning, signal processing and powerline communications concepts in fault monitoring to reduce fire ignition probability of high impedance faults in electrical power networks.

Qualifications

  • PhD (Engineering), Victoria University, Australia, 2006
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.), Victoria University, Australia, 2002
  • Graduate Certificate of Tertiary Education, Victoria University, 2010.
