About Rudi van Staden
Dr Rudi van Staden is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering and Course Chair in Architectural and Civil Engineering with the College of Sport, Health and Engineering.
During his PhD research, he collaborated with national and international researchers and successfully applied the Finite Element Method (FEM) to further the understanding of the long-term response bone during and after dental implantation.
The centrepiece of his postdoctoral research focused on the development of modelling techniques to evaluate the impacts of changes in moisture and temperature, due to climate change, on rigid and flexible pavement deterioration. The postdoctoral research also gave him the opportunity to lead the physical infrastructure sector in the formulation of climate change adaptation options under the South East Queensland Climate Adaptation Research Initiative funded by the Queensland Government Smart State Innovation Fund and Australian Government Department of Climate Change.
Dr van Staden is also conducting research in Structural Engineering. Together with Professor Fragomeni, they are using FEM to further understand concrete corbels.
