Wednesday 8 March is International Women’s Day. This day was created to challenge the systematic inequality and oppression of women and girls.

Victoria University is committed to working for gender equality, in every facet of our business.

Here's how you can celebrate International Women’s Day with your friends, classmates and colleagues at VU:

 

Featuring two VU alumna and two current students, presented by VU Employ and supported by the new Educating for Equality team within Equality, Inclusion and Belonging.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker will provide closing remarks.

This event is jointly organised by VU with our partners the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, Maribyrnong City Council and Footscray Community Arts.

The theme is: The Power of Embracing Equity.

Speakers include VU researcher Dr Kara Dadswell and Nathan Burke (Western Bulldogs AFLW coach).

The VU Student Union will hold events at the Footscray Park and City Tower Women’s Rooms as follows:

Footscray Park Women's Morning Tea

  • When: Tuesday 7 March between 7.30am and 11am
  • Where: the Women’s Room is located on the ground floor of Building E, next to the Security Office and opposite Moondani Balluk.

City Tower: Women's Grab 'n' Go Breaky

  • When: Thursday 9 March between 7.30am and 11am
  • Where: the Women’s Room is located on Level 10, within the Student Union space.

Staff are encouraged to visit the Gender Equality resource pages on the intranet and check out the University’s Gender Equality Action Plan.

Consider holding a morning tea in your work area to discuss how your team can contribute to these goals.
