Dr Darryl O’Brien is a lecturer in building surveying at Victoria University and a private consultant based in Queensland. Prior to this, Darryl was Director of Technical and Regulation at the Victorian Building Authority and was a lecturer and Head of Course for CQUniversity.

Darryl holds undergraduate degrees in Building Surveying and Building Design and postgraduate qualifications including a PhD, Masters Environmental Planning and Graduate Certificates in Tertiary Education and Urban Planning.

Darryl is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors and past QLD NT Vice President, former member of the AIBS QLD State Executive Committee, AIBS National Technical Committee and AIBS National Education Committee. In addition to his lecturing roles, Darryl works as a consultant for government agencies, provides technical presentations for a range of organisations and has previously been engaged as an Independent Technical Expert for Cladding Safety Victoria.
