About Susan Philip
Susan Philip is a registered nurse, academic, and researcher with a diverse clinical background in medical-surgical nursing, critical care, and cancer nursing. With international experience in India, Singapore, and Australia, she has worked in various clinical capacities since 1995.
Susan has been a Teaching and Research Academic at Victoria University for the past 16 years, where she currently holds the position as the Course Chair for the Bachelor of Nursing program.
Susan's research interests focus on health communication and patient safety, as well as workforce capacity building of nurses from CALD backgrounds. Susan’s PhD research investigated Overseas Qualified Nurses’ communication with patients and staff. She showed that effective team communication is a shared responsibility, and that interpersonal skills as well as English-language competence are key to patient-centred care. Her study provides evidence of the contributions these nurses make to Australian healthcare.
Susan has experience teaching contemporary nursing practice relating to acute and chronic illnesses in the Bachelor of Nursing program.
