About Caglayan Yasan
Caglayan Yasan is a registered nurse, academic and researcher with a diverse clinical background encompassing surgical, community and rapid assessment units, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of patient care. Her doctoral research focused on the experiences of patients and nursing staff regarding falls prevention in an acute care medical ward.
Dr Yasan began her career at Victoria University in 2015 as a clinical facilitator, before obtaining a permanent position within the First Year College. Currently, she facilitates the learning experiences of second- and third-year nursing and midwifery students in the discipline college.
Key achievements are:
- Leading collaborative research initiatives that examined the mental health simulation and OSCA on nursing and midwifery students’ readiness for their placement.
- Leading collaborative research on the effectiveness of real-life actors in nursing students’ simulation on their OSCA achievement.
- Several student projects around utilisation of simulation, chronic conditions and critical thinking that produced valuable insights for refining academic curricula.
- Leading a collaborative systematic review that focused on the experiences of patients who experienced a fall during their hospital admissions in acute care settings.
- Leading collaborative research examining the impact of road construction on residents living in proximity to construction sites.
Her research interests are diverse, encompassing pressure and fall prevention, simulation, mental health, chronic conditions such as diabetes, and patient safety and well-being. These contributions have advanced knowledge and practices within these fields.
Caglayan played a pivotal role in establishing a unique two-way partnership between Victoria University and The Northern Hospital.
