Masterclasses in law
Our Courts & Tribunals Academy delivers expert masterclasses on law and law-related topics.
The Sentencing Theory and Practice Masterclass is run by Emeritus Professor Arie Freiberg, Chair of the Sentencing Advisory Council.
In 2019, we launched the inaugural Masterclass for Government Investigators attended by over 70 investigators from 13 regulatory agencies.
Notarial Practice
Our Professional Course in Notarial Practice provides legal practitioners with the knowledge and skills required to be appointed as Notaries Public.
The course is the first qualification available in Australia and New Zealand.
It is approved by Victoria's Council of Legal Education. The course satisfies the requirements of the Public Notaries Act 2001 (Vic) in relation to the education of prospective notaries in Victoria.
Duration: 17 weeks
Delivery mode: face-to-face and online (three day workshop, followed by self-paced online study).
Location: City Queen Campus and industry.
Chinese legal executive education program
The Chinese Legal Executive Education Program is a targeted course for practising Chinese lawyers. The program covers Australian law and common law systems, as well as facilitating networking within government, business and the legal sector.
The eight week intensive course includes:
- daily seminars and tutorials with a diverse range of speakers from industry, the law, the judiciary and academia
- field trips to significant sites, such as the Victorian Parliament, Federal and state courts, and local law firms
- attendance at conferences, seminars and professional networking forums
- a legal placement program that allows students to apply their new knowledge and observe professional legal practice at Victorian law firms.
Outcomes
Program delegates return to China with a broader understanding of the Australian legal system and western legal principles.
Participating Australian law firms have the opportunity to:
- strengthen their cultural and commercial understanding of the Chinese legal sector
- establish business links with Chinese law firms.
