Overview

This unit extends the study of the fundamental knowledge in Chemistry It Matters. Topics within this course will include acids, bases and salts, chemical solutions, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibria, oxidation and reduction. Balanced chemical equations will be used to calculate the mass and yield of reactants consumed and products produced.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Qualitatively and quantitatively monitor chemical reactions and explain observations through the use and calculation of chemical equations;
  2. Demonstrate written, oral and digital communication skills for conversing in a chemical manner;
  3. Locate relevant scientific literature and cite references using appropriate conventions; and
  4. Safely and effectively apply chemical laboratory procedures and analyse results.
