The focus of this unit is the role of accounting in managing an organisation within an increasingly complex business environment. This unit covers the fundamental accounting concepts and practices, which enable informed management planning and decision making to occur. An analysis framework will be introduced that could be applied to assess an organisation’s profitability, liquidity and solvency. Topics include: the concept of Income Statements as a performance report, the Balance Sheet as a statement of financial position, Cash and Accrual Accounting systems, cash flow management, budgeting, internal control cost-volume-price behaviour, and incremental analysis decision making.
