ACS Summit helps students reach new heights

As part of VU Polytechnic’s Cyber Week learning festival, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) held a student summit event at Victoria University’s Sunshine Skills Hub for anyone looking to workshop solutions to a particular problem in the cyber security domain, learn key elements of the innovative process and work collaboratively to reach solutions.

The event was targeted towards students currently completing their studies to allow participants to keep abreast with their professional development through the facilitation of three sessions, highlighting ways in which you can stand out and succeed as a skilled professional. It was attended by Certificate IV in Cyber Security 22334VIC students as well as cyber and IT industry leaders.

Participants heard from a range of speakers, including the AARNET panel, James Ng, Krey Lacerna, Sylvia Crncovic, and Andrew Wong from Koba about their career journeys in the tech sector and insights on internships and entrepreneurships. This followed a very interactive session with Emma Donnelly from Comm-IT about how to network and the importance of human engagement.

It was a fantastic event. It was great to see the Sunshine Skills Hub so full of life and vibrancy. Students and staff gained a wealth of knowledge from the industry presentations from ACS, AARNET, KOBA and a presentation on networking. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to network after so many lockdowns in 2021, and we had over 35 attendees at the event. Students have already asked about when the next event will take place.
