VU attends Transgender Victoria jobs fair
Victoria University (VU) provided advice and support for jobseekers from the trans and gender-diverse communities in Transgender Victoria (TGV)’s recent annual jobs fair.
This was the first time that VU participated in the TGV event, and VU was the only university in attendance.
VU Director Capability, Culture and Talent Carol Corzo said the aim was to support job-seekers find employment pathways through an organisation that values diversity and inclusion. From a total of 115 attendees, more than 50 jobseekers expressed interest in VU via a QR code.
“We had some very talented engineers, including one that I connected to a broader network in their specialised area of professional development,” she said.
VU creates welcoming environment for all
VU has furthered its work in other areas to create a safe and welcoming environment for staff and students who identify as trans and gender-diverse.
In May, VU held its first pride march on IDAHOBIT Day in solidarity with the LGBTIQA+ and gender-diverse community, and in response to anti-trans rights rallies in Melbourne and across the globe.
The march, which was held at the Footscray Park and Footscray Nicholson campuses were attended by near 100 staff and students.
In January 2023, VU commenced a project to allow staff and students to update their name, pronouns and gender markers on VU systems.
An eLearn module for staff and students; Understanding and Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Identities, provides information and guidance on how to stand with our rainbow community.
Students and staff at VU can also refer to the Gender Affirmation Guide, which provides support and resources for staff and students who are affirming their gender identity.
