Overview

Develop your management skills and progress your career in construction by completing the Graduate Diploma in Construction Management at Victoria University.

In just one year of full-time study, you will acquire an advanced practical skillset that will allow you to apply for leadership roles within the construction industry. The program has a specific focus on sustainable building practices and is part of a series of postgraduate courses aimed at preparing future leaders in building and civil engineering projects.

Throughout the course, you will engage in case studies and practical exercises that will teach you how to effectively plan projects from start to finish. This includes tasks such as scoping, scheduling, costing, and considering various factors such as risk, quality, safety, and cultural and environmental impact.

Additionally, you will explore the practical implementation of emerging technologies like data analytics, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced materials, and understand their role in every stage of a project, from planning to construction and beyond.

: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Exhibit advanced project management knowledge, including established theories and recent advancements, to ensure efficient, sustainable, and high-quality construction project completion;

Implement construction project management principles and practices in new or complex environments, incorporating innovative solutions and contemporary technologies;

Critically assess the sources and validity of information and use standardised processes for information management and storage that align with national codes and relevant standards of practice;

Advocate for cultural awareness, environmental and social responsibility, integration of First Nations Peoples' perspectives and respect for diversity in all professional activities; and

Exemplify professional integrity and leadership by collaborating effectively and ethically within multidisciplinary teams.
: This course is part of a suite of postgraduate courses in construction management.
By studying an additional year towards our Master of Construction Management, you will gain substantial professional experience and have the opportunity to contribute advancements to your field by conducting original, data-focused research.
: The construction industry must transition to green building practices to meet national and global sustainability targets. During your study, you will come to understand the barriers to sustainable construction in the infrastructure sector and the management and communication skills needed to overcome them.
You'll explore topics specific to Australia, learning about First Nations Peoples' ecological stewardship, and sustainable design principles.

For PhD applicants, we offer a related ‘Integrated PhD’ which allows you to establish relevant skills before beginning your research.

You may also be eligible for course ‘credits’, where you are granted a unit or units towards your qualification for equivalent previous study or work experience, so you can graduate sooner.
