Amanda’s amazing journey in analytics

Since Amanda Cole was first drawn to studies in Business Analytics at VU, her path into this high-growth industry has proven both professionally and personally stimulating.

“I’d been contemplating further postgraduate studies for a while. With 25 years’ experience in manufacturing and construction and my role as a safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) systems manager, I wanted a course that would help me find new ways to analyse and improve workplace performance.”

Serendipitous beginnings

“In 2019 I attended VU Open Day to support my daughter. We were at a booth discussing a course for her when a banner caught my eye across the room. I immediately felt chills. I’d found it: Business Analytics. The lecturer at the stand was so inspiring, I applied on the spot.

I began with a single unit and progressed to the Graduate Diploma of Business Analytics, then pathwayed into my masters.”

“Once I started my mind was blown! In data visualisation everything corresponds and interrelates. I thought artificial intelligence and Python software were beyond me, but here I am excelling – the lecturers demystified the topics and dissolved my insecurities.

The course teaches you how to think about the data differently, analysis and visualisation helps you to get the story from the data to prove or disprove your position.”
