How Laura’s stretching into physiotherapy
The VU Block Model® is letting me excel at university while also running a business, running lots of kilometres and dealing with the demands of adult life.
Laura Peill
Bachelor of Applied Movement Sciences/Master of Physiotherapy
As a Pilates teacher, long distance runner and psychology graduate, Laura Peill is passionate about movement. Now, she’s unlocking new career potential by studying physiotherapy at Victoria University (VU).
“VU gave me the opportunity to chase a dream, a career and new potential. I already had an honours degree in psychology and my own business, but I wanted more for myself.
“I’m a clinical Pilates teacher and a long-distance runner, so movement has always been what I do. Combined with my background in psychology, I am passionate about helping people show up for themselves through movement.
“Physiotherapy marks the next level of this. It allows me to combine my previous skills and experiences with a higher level of education, and the knowledge to continue to help people live a better quality of life or perform better at their sport.”
Finding her own path to physiotherapy
“I chose to study at VU because it gave me an opportunity to do physiotherapy as a masters, even though I didn’t have the usual background.
“The Bachelor of Applied Movement Sciences/Master of Physiotherapy program is unique in its offering. It’s a great bridging opportunity for someone like me – coming in with prior education and experience, but without the ideal foundation in that particular study path.
“Now that I'm in it, I'm so excited by the opportunity and potential it marks and the path that it is letting me forge.
“It's the start of a new career and a future doing something I know I will love, and that will have longevity and job prospects for the rest of my life.”
The flexibility for success
“Because this is my second time around at university, I knew what to expect going in – how to manage my time, study efficiently and handle the increased demands of university compared to high school.
“The VU Block Model
® is the difference that I had not experienced in my previous degree. Now, it is letting me excel at university while also running a business, running lots of kilometres and dealing with the demands of adult life.”
