How Noor’s building business expertise & networks

What I've enjoyed most about my study and work experience at VU and ICN is the opportunity for hands-on learning and real-world application of knowledge.

Noor Ul Ain Riaz
Bachelor of Business

Noor Ul Ain Riaz is a business analyst at Industry Capability Network (ICN), based at ICN’s offices at the Victoria University (VU) City Campus. It’s her first role after completing her Bachelor of Business at VU, and she is set to graduate soon. Noor reflects on her study experience, and says that the supportive environments at university and work have helped her thrive both professionally and personally.

“Prior to moving to Australia, I was living in Oman, in the Middle East. The decision to move to Australia, particularly Melbourne, was influenced by family ties as my brothers had already pursued their studies there.

“Melbourne's reputation as a vibrant, multicultural city with excellent educational opportunities made it an attractive destination for me.”

Interested in business from the start

“In high school in Oman, you choose between different subject streams – and, despite initially pursuing science, my interest in business remained strong. Eventually, I made the decision to transition into business studies, which led me to choose my major in Business Information Systems during my time at VU.”

Studying & working at VU City Campus

“While balancing my coursework, I seized every opportunity to gain practical experience. This led me to an internship at Industry Capability Network (ICN), while I also juggled a job at Woolworths. My hard work and dedication paid off, as I transitioned from a part-time contract to a full-time role as the Business Capability Analyst Officer at ICN's office conveniently located in the VU City Campus.

Studying and working in the same building, especially combined with the flexibility of remote work, has been incredibly beneficial. It streamlines my schedule and allows for seamless transitions between classes and work responsibilities.

"Working from home has also provided me with a conducive environment to focus on tasks that require deep concentration.”

Learning highlights so far

“What I've enjoyed most about my study and work experience at VU and ICN is the opportunity for hands-on learning and real-world application of knowledge.

"The block system [VU Block Model] is incredible; it centred my brain much more. It is good to be able to focus on one subject at a time, and be able to work. The supportive environment at both institutions has allowed me to thrive and grow both personally and professionally.

“Looking forward to graduation, I'm excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I'm eager to further advance my career as a business analyst, applying the skills and knowledge I've gained to make a positive impact in the field. Graduation marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities, and I'm ready to embrace it wholeheartedly.”
