How a love of travel can lead to international success
I was thrilled that not only did my placement become full-time employment, but the experience and networking skills gave me confidence in my abilities for the workforce.

Bachelor of Business (Tourism & Hospitality Management)
Megan Walendy knew that by studying tourism she was following her passion – but she never predicted what would ultimately launch her career.
“Tourism can shape who you are. It enables you to experience new cultures and cuisines, discover history and meet amazing people from around the world. It’s exciting to have a career in an industry that facilitates all this and more.
During my Business (Tourism) degree at VU, my Work Integrated Learning placement at Tourism Victoria allowed me to gain industry experience while I studied so I could immediately apply my new knowledge to practical situations.
I was thrilled that not only did my placement become full-time employment, but the experience and networking skills gave me confidence in my abilities for the workforce.
The VU courses were focused and interesting. Through real life case studies you could see how each subject related to the industry. The staff were engaging and helpful, and the smaller class sizes allowed for more interaction and practical learning.
A year after graduating I relocated to London and have found my passion in product management in my role at Noble Caledonia, world leaders in small ship cruising. I can truly say, I love what I do.
VU’s School for the Visitor Economy is a great initiative aimed at contributing to the growing demands of tourism, hospitality and events.
Ever-changing due to social, economic and environmental factors, these industries need skilled workers that can meet demand and are attuned to its current and future needs.”
