The performance of her career
2020 was a difficult year for the industry, but I’ve grown personally and professionally through studying, and relating my coursework and projects to real work scenarios.
Michelle Lucia
Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration
With a passion for the music industry that propelled her into a global business career, Michelle Lucia returned to postgraduate studies to further grow her expertise and opportunities.
Despite not having her degree, Michelle’s professional experience enabled her to enrol in the Graduate Certificate, and then progress with the Master of Business Administration (MBA).
A world of experience
“I’ve been lucky to have worked in the industry I love, in multiple countries and cities for more than 15 years. My career grew from an assistant role in a music and arts marketing agency, to senior marketing positions at MTV in both Australia and the UK, and then a move to Singapore.
When my current role (head of commercial marketing at Live Nation) came up in Melbourne, I jumped into this company I love, and the opportunity to bring some of the world’s biggest artists to Australia and New Zealand."
The right moment, the right course
"I’d always wanted to come back to finish uni and the time was right to do my MBA. I was looking for a broader business course to feel confident in my leadership role.
Not having a university degree was no barrier, as my experience was recognised in my admission. I completed the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, and progressed to the MBA. This pathway warmed me up to formal learning and I really enjoyed the subjects.
I chose VU as its MBA and business school are ranked highly and course advisers are so helpful. I also liked the idea of Block Model study, as it fits around my work commitments.
Going back to uni has unexpectedly provided me some balance from just focusing on work. 2020 was a difficult year for the industry, but I’ve grown personally and professionally through studying, and relating my coursework and projects to real work scenarios."
VU's preferred approach
"From an employer perspective, I know that VU graduates have a thorough education with great support from teachers, facilitators and advisers, and the benefits of practical learning.
I love that music connects people from all walks of life. That feeling when your favourite band enters the stage and you get goose bumps – knowing my job enables that experience for millions of people every year is so rewarding.”
