VU staff & student services – a key to success
Studying project management at VU not only taught me project management skills, but also other important skills in communication.
Sokchea Tan (Cambodia)
Master of Project Management
For Sokchea Tan, Victoria University (VU) was the best choice when selecting where to study a Master of Project Management.
Sokchea's master degree had a clear course structure, experienced, helpful and supportive lecturers, and allowed him to study alongside students from different cultures and backgrounds. He enjoyed the consistent opportunities to apply new found theory to practical projects.
“Studying project management at VU not only taught me project management skills, but also other important skills in communication.”
Sokchea comes to the Master of Project Management at VU with extensive experience as Deputy Director General of Industry, Urban Water Supply Development and Regulation, in the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft, in his home country of Cambodia. A recipient of an Australian Government Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS), it is important to Sokchea that “all Cambodian people have access to safe and affordable water supply through effective project implementation and management.”
The Master of Project Management degree at VU will assist Sokchea to return to the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft shortly, to coordinate and cooperate with international agencies and donors, formulate and develop water supply projects, as well as work with policy development and regulation of the urban water supply sector.
Whilst the location of VU’s Footscray Park campus next to lush gardens and the Maribyrnong River was appealing to Sokchea, he highlights the support of VU lecturers and staff, as well as the services provided to students, as key to his success. “I would recommend VU as the many events and training on offer enhances our knowledge and skills. There are also free services to take advantage of, including assistance with academic writing and counselling."
"VU helps us to achieve our academic goals and career ambition as the courses are designed to combine theory and practice, and I always found lecturers to be knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging”.
