Overview

This unit enables students to develop an extended research project, as an individual or a team member. The research project will focus on a current pressing issue for the workplaces students will enter. Students will use the project to develop and refine advanced skills in research, conceptual and critical thinking, writing and project management.

The project will be designed and conducted over the duration of a block and written up in the form of a research report (creative work can contribute to the word count). Students can submit practical work as part of their report.
Students are encouraged to use the project not only as a formal requirement but also as an opportunity to build assets that contribute towards their professional portfolios and development.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Exhibit a capacity to implement and report on a research project;
  2. Work collaboratively with a research supervisor and participate in discussion and group activities and be sensitive to the participation of others;
  3. Design and conduct a research project through its various stages after design and planning including data collection, analysis, drafting and write-up;
  4. Conduct independent scholarly and industry research supporting the practical application of theory and opportunities in the field;
  5. Communicate with network specialists and other stakeholders regarding the socio-technical issues of the research being undertaken.
