Overview

Understand how to use accounting systems and processes to generate the financial information needed to aid in management decision making.
This unit will provide you with the skills needed to understand how accounting systems and electronic data processing have been one of the most significant advancements in accounting today.
In this unit you will learn
  • the application of technology to generate accounting information,
  • implementation of accounting software using project management principles,
  • how to evaluate accounting systems and record financial transactions using accounting software
  • how to analyse information needed by management to plan and control accounting systems

By the end of this unit, you will understand how information technology helps to resolve complex business issues and use these technologies to processes financial and non-financial transactions impacting organisations today.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate key similarities and differences between traditional and computerised accounting systems;
  2. Analyse business processes in terms of their objectives, their information requirements, and their relationships to accounting information design structures;
  3. Demonstrate the application of accounting software and spreadsheets to process data into information suitable for managerial decision making; and
  4. Explain the process involved in evaluating accounting information needs and implementing a viable solution.
