Overview

The unit enables skills and understanding for managing analytics projects, specifically planning, scheduling, resourcing and acting tasks, in order to implement effective systems for business analytics and enterprise systems. Managing an IT projects and analytical projects is a challenging task and it is a science and a skill that is highly sought after. Working in teams and managing teams effectively is a necessity. It is an art based on experience and knowledge. This unit will expose students to this world of project management with its excitement and its pitfalls, for preparing them for critical certification in the area as well as positioning them well for their job search and career advancement. This unit will cover the foundational knowledge in project management (PMBOK – Project Management Body of Knowledge) and skills in managing IT and analytical projects. The focus is put on current project management frameworks such as Agile, Scrum and others. Using the IT project lifecycle, students will learn to be efficient project managers with industry-based scenarios and real-world business problems.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate critically project contexts and client requirements to conceptually map project management steps to a business scenario;
  2. Design, develop and implement project management frameworks to meet stakeholders’ expectations using the latest available project management software;
  3. Integrate various business analytics design principles and concepts of project management to address complex contemporary system design challenges in local, national and global settings; and,
  4. Recommend a tailed project management approach of developing an IT and/or business analytics application based on a variety of real-world scenarios; and
  5. Communicate project management plan with stakeholders at different stages of a project.
