Develop expertise in financial analysis, with Financial Modelling for Enterprise Risk Management.

In this unit you will use spreadsheets and other statistical applications to assess, evaluate and manage various forms of risk faced by business organisations. You will explore the risk exposures firms face arising from:

  • investment
  • financing
  • operations
  • technological activities.

Focus will be on how to integrate the technical knowledge in the discipline of enterprise risk management to quantify, analyse, generate, and communicate solutions to risk management problems using spreadsheet applications.


You will also investigate new developments such as block chain and crypto currencies as well as events like the global financial crisis and COVID-19, and how these changed the landscape of contemporary risk management.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically review and understand the various forms of risk which business firms are subject to;
  2. Demonstrate how financial modelling can be used for assessing, quantifying and interpreting various forms of risks, and use appropriate management tools to mitigate the exposure to those risks;
  3. Develop and use a range of quantitative and statistical models for modelling financial, business, cyber and other forms of risk;
  4. Design spreadsheets and perform statistical financial analysis using forecasting tools;
  5. Critically examine some of the core financial modelling and time-series forecasting methods used in financial risk and return modelling research; and,
  6. Apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills to individual and/or group activities dealing with risk management modelling in finance and communicate the relevant information to various stakeholders.
