Study the capstone unit Contemporary Issues in Banking and Finance to further develop your professional values, ethics and attitudes.

You will learn about management skills and knowledge relevant to a contemporary banking and finance environment. The applied nature of this unit develops a range of transferable skills of value in your employment after graduation.

  • Sessions will focus on topics that are at the forefront of both industry and academic literature. Gain greater understanding of the banking sector through:
  • case studies
  • journal articles
  • specialist expert speakers who work in the field.

  • bank risk management

  • financial technology adoption such as digital banking

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Assess the role of banks in the economic process in terms of their functioning and operation;
  2. Analyse the practice of modern banking in a financial technological environment comprising cryptocurrencies and digital banking;
  3. Critically evaluate key financial risks faced by banks and critically analyse different approaches to risk management;
  4. Exercise judgement skills to evaluate the causes of bank failures and argue the importance of micro and macro prudential regulation in their mitigation; and,
  5. Critically reflect on the ethical dilemmas and challenges in the practice of contemporary banking in the real and green economies.
