Overview

Gain an essential overview of essential human resource (HR) strategies in the Managing People unit.

This unit will introduce you to:

  • the strategic and sustainable roles of HR
  • workforce planning
  • work design
  • emerging employment models (the digital and distributed workforce, automation)
  • talent attraction, retention and development
  • performance management
  • rewards and holistic employee experiences.

You will also learn the people management practices and strategies needed to address emerging workplace challenges.
By the end of the unit, you will have a range of transferable career skills, that will enable you to engage with and respond to evolving labour market trends.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse HRM practices in the context of business environments characterised by volatility, uncertainty and change, including technological change and sustainability;
  2. Critically analyse HRM issues and recommend HR strategies to address emerging workplace challenges;
  3. Articulate sustainable HRM practices to people management problems; and,
  4. Exhibit competency in collaboration, teamwork and communication (oral, written and visual) for workplace success.
