Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are used to integrate enterprise-wide information into a database and make that information available to managers. Within manufacturing operations, and their supply chain partners, most information is contained in Manufacturing Planning and Control (MPC) systems. The unit will introduce students to the principles of the MPC systems that support the manufacture of products for customers starting from order forecasts through to release of manufacturing. Using hands on ERP systems (SAP R/3), students will build their own product with the necessary sub components, prepare bill of materials, implement the material requirement planning, and choose work centres for routing and production release. As the industry is heading towards Industry 4.0 and Supply Chain 4.0 vision, this unit will introduce students the transitioning strategies to the cyber-physical systems of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing in context of global supply chain.
