Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work in partnership with a person and their family, carer or others identified by the person to recognise and report the risk of falls.This unit applies to support workers in a residential or community context. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and may be carried out under regular direct, indirect or remote supervision.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • identify indicators of falls risk for at least two people, including at least one physical risk and one environmental risk
  • report each of the above falls risks according to organisational policies and procedures, maintaining the privacy and dignity of the person.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
