Overview

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to install and maintain domestic water treatment equipment.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, incl the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
* a cartridge water filter
* a water cooler
* a water softener
* a water conditioner
* a reverse osmosis filter
* a sand filter.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
* characteristics, applications and installation requirements:
* cartridge filters
* water softeners
* water coolers
* water conditioners
* reverse osmosis filters
* sand filters
* osmosis and reverse osmosis, filtration and purification
* properties of hard and soft water
* sources of contamination and impurities
* pressure and flow rates
* how to access relevant information, including codes and standards
* tools, materials and equipment used to install and maintain domestic water treatment equipment
* work health and safety (PPE) requirements for installing and maintaining domestic water treatment equipment.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
