Overview

This unit aims to provide educators in higher, further and vocational education settings with the skills, knowledge around the Block Model principles, Block Model teaching and learning strategies and an introduction to high engagement teaching in a tertiary setting. The unit will explore new and traditional approaches towards tertiary teaching and will challenge students to further explore the possibilities that Block teaching affords.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically review and analyse block and intensive teaching in contemporary Higher Education contexts
  2. Appraise the roles of both the learner and educator in block and intensive teaching contexts
  3. Elucidate the potential for block and intensive teaching to be the catalyst for pedagogical and curricular reform
  4. Advocate for the importance of guiding principles to guide effective implementation of block and intensive teaching
  5. Articulate and discuss a personal block teaching philosophy based on literature
