Overview

This unit connects the structure and teaching of units in block mode to the principles of feedback and assessment. The development of authentic assessment tasks is key to quality outcomes for students and staff. The challenge in intensive teaching modes is to design authentic assessments that can be achieved in a short time frame. A further aspect to be highlighted in this unit is feedback literacy and the importance of incorporating feedback (peer, staff) into unit and assessment design.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate assessment design to recommend approaches relevant to Block learning and teaching;
  2. Critique connections between practice, current theories and research on assessment design to prepare recommendations for change;
  3. Apply systematic assessment design processes to develop assessment tasks for effective learning in Block and broader Higher Education settings;
  4. Design assessment that provides feedback to students that informs their further learning;
  5. Communicate improvement-oriented feedback in a professional and respectful manner.
