This unit provides an introduction to key concepts and principles in language testing and assessment. It covers theoretical approaches to assessment and testing of language skills in the contexts of various language programs including General English and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Directly or indirectly, language teaching and feedback can be shaped and influenced by both formal testing and classroom-based assessment, while knowledge of a range of approaches to testing knowledge of testing is often necessary to understand and apply research into language teaching and practice.
