Overview

The unit caps students’ learning in the course in two ways. First, it addresses major current global challenges through the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This framework equips graduates to teach global citizenship and integrate the Sustainability Cross Curriculum Priority effectively into their teaching.Second, the unit enables students to critically engage with these global challenges in a scholarly way by developing a research project focused on applying the SDGs in education.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding regarding the Sustainability Cross Curriculum Priority: its application in various subjects across the curriculum, the relevant and appropriate resources to engage students in their learning and sources of professional learning for teachers;
  2. Articulate understanding regarding the major challenges of our time as articulated through the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals;
  3. Conduct an investigation based on a literature review; analyse and synthesise a range of literary materials to draw defensible conclusions;
  4. Communicate research findings and develop evidence-based claims;
  5. Collaborate to develop research capabilities.
