Overview

Project governance provides the framework and system that ensures project decisions align with organisational policies and strategic objectives. This unit examines the fundamental principles of project governance and their integration with established project management methodologies, including the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) guidelines. Students will map governance structures, analyse contemporary governance theories, and evaluate their practical applications in project contexts. Through critical assessment of real-world project governance implementations and their outcomes, students will develop skills in evaluating and adapting governance frameworks to enhance project performance and help prevent project failure across different organisational environments.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Conceptually map the role of corporate governance in project design, development and execution;
  2. Critically review and synthesise project governance theories and their application in project contexts;
  3. Evaluate the governance of a specified project and report on its success or failings; and
  4. Evaluate and adapt appropriate governance models to enhance project performance in varied organizational contexts.
