Overview

This unit examines the strategic application of Information Technology (IT) in enhancing project management processes, with particular focus on planning, scheduling, monitoring, and control functions. Students will evaluate Project Management Information Systems and their role in supporting effective project delivery across different contexts. The unit develops expertise in managing IT projects through exploring tools, techniques, and project plan development. Students will critically analyse various project life cycle methodologies, including adaptive and agile approaches, to determine their suitability for different project scenarios. Through practical application and evaluation of project management software and methodologies, students will develop comprehensive skills in leveraging technology for successful project outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse and evaluate economic models for selecting information technology projects;
  2. Design and evaluate project management plans specifically tailored for information technology project environments;
  3. Assess and justify the selection of appropriate project life cycle methodologies for diverse project scenarios; and
  4. Implement technology-based scheduling solutions across various project types and contexts.
