Overview

This unit will provide students with the opportunity to develop stage appropriate competency in a range of dermal science and therapy skills and techniques; including client/skin assessment, determining parameters of skin health, developing and performing a range of advanced dermal techniques to manage skin conditions in safe and effective manner. Students will consolidate knowledge of the scientific basis and mechanism of treatments as well as patient health status and skin tissue interactions in order to evaluate risks and manage complications. Students will develop skills and competency as evidence based clinical dermal practitioners.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Apply consultation and skin assessment techniques to extrapolate appropriate parameters for advanced dermal treatments and evaluate efficacy of treatment strategies;
  2. Exhibit stage appropriate competency in performing a range of advanced dermal skills and techniques;
  3. Interrogate and apply knowledge of the scientific basis and mechanism of advanced treatments to practice; and
  4. Evaluate risks and manage complications associated with advanced dermal procedures.

Practical Test OSCE (60mins) (hurdle)

A minimum 80% attendance is required for classes and workshops, which develop knowledge, competency, and safety in practical skills. To pass this unit, students must achieve an aggregate score of 50%, and pass the practical test OSCE. This is a hurdle requirement to assess a student’s capability to perform the relevant treatments safely and effectively.
