This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the scene of a major incident as the first arriving resource and then participate in the management and coordination following the arrival of further resources.This unit applies to pre-hospital and out-of-hospital health care workers.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, incl the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
* performed triage sieve with tags in accordance with organisational policies and procedures for 10 casualties of varying conditions and severity of injury
* used communication equipment to provide SITREPs at regular intervals until completion of incident and in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
* debriefed at completion of incident in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
