Overview

This unit will foster students’ knowledge and practical skills in clinical communication in Australian health care settings using frameworks of person-centred care and intraprofessional and interprofessional practice. Through a cultural competency framework students will critically reflect on their scope of nursing practice, across the lifespan and different health contexts, when caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Students will further consolidate their therapeutic and team communication skills by engaging in case-based scenarios during workshops. Students will also undertake 15 hours of facilitated learning in the Self-Directed Laboratories under the guidance of registered nurses employed to supervise the labs.
