The aim of this unit is to prepare students for management of large-scale construction projects, taking into account ethical concerns, social implications, and cultural factors. The unit focuses on integrating key sub-plans, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, health, safety, environment, sustainability, procurement, stakeholder management, communication, and change, into a unified Construction Project Management Plan (CPMP).
The unit introduces the profession's ethical dimensions and the importance of professional conduct. It emphasises social awareness and cultural sensitivity, especially in relation to First Nations peoples. Social awareness is critical in ensuring that construction projects are not only efficient and successful in technical terms but also beneficial and minimally disruptive to the communities they affect. Indigenous culture and the effects of policies on Indigenous communities in Australia are explored. Due to the deep connection, First Nations Peoples have with the land and their emphasis on sustainable practices, this unit draws attention to the First Nations Peoples knowledge systems, such as traditional land management, ecological stewardship, and sustainable design principles. As a result of this approach, students will be prepared to lead and manage construction projects effectively and ethically in a challenging and diverse industry, focusing on practical application and cultural competence.
